How to Play

Presidential Old Maid is a modern political take on the traditional Old Maid card game. The goal is to avoid having a particular card or cards at the end of the game- in this case Donald Trump in the Democrat deck and Joe Biden in the Republican deck.

Players

2 – 8 players

Objective

The goal is to avoid the person who ends up holding the Presidential Old Maid at the end of the game.

Starting the Game

In the Democrat deck, Donald Trump is the Presidential Old Maid.

In the Republican deck, Joe Biden is the Presidential Old Maid.

Choose a dealer, who deals the cards clockwise to all players until all cards are distributed. If there are not enough cards for every player to get the same number, that’s no problem; some players may start with an extra card.

Gameplay

Players sort out their cards and discard any pairs they were dealt.

Then the dealer then offers their hand, face down, to the player on his or her left, who randomly selects one card from the dealer’s hand. If the card matches one already in his or her hand, they put the pair down. If the card doesn’t form a pair, he or she keeps the card they selected.

Players proceed clockwise, with the player to the left of the dealer offering his or her hand, face down, to the player on his or her left. This cycle continues until there are no more pairs to be made and the Presidential Old Maid is the only card left in play.

Winning (SO MUCH WINNING!)

The game ends when the Presidential Old Maid is the only card left in play. The person holding the Presidential Old Maid loses. Welcome to politics!
